Cape Cod Life Food & Wine Festival

Pencil it in – the first annual Cape Cod Life Food & Wine Festival is scheduled for Sunday, June 1st through Wednesday, June 4th. Sneak down to the Cape and enjoy four food and wine filled days, or pick and choose from the festival’s bounty of events to design your own indulgent Cape escape. TV Diner’s Billy Costa hosts the Grand Opening on Sunday, June 1st from 3:00-6:00pm at the Rectrix Aerodrome in Hyannis. The event, tickets for which cost $50 apiece, features local talent from Twenty-Eight Atlantic and Willowbend Country Club as well as guest chefs Gabriel Frasca and Amanda Lydon of Nantucket’s Straight Wharf, Todd Winer of The Metropolitan Club, Peter Eco of Stix and 33 Restaurant, and Dante de Magistris of dante. Throughout the rest of the festival there are cultural happy hours at some of the Cape’s historic and artistic spots; and wine dinners at restaurants like Regatta of Cotuit (menu), Circadia (menu) and Heather (menu). Thursday Tasting at Tomasso Trattoria

Wine Director Lorenza Savona welcomes novices and aficionados alike to join him in the private dining room at Tomasso Trattoria & Enoteca for a series of exploratory wine tastings. Each month Savona picks an evening (usually a Thursday), a theme (usually a region, varietal or winemaker) and an assortment of his favorite bottles (usually six to nine) to explore and pair with tasting portions from chef Justin Melnick’s menu of Italian specialties. Tastings, which start at 7:00pm, generally run for an hour and a half or so and cost $30 per person. On Thursday, April 17th, Savona explores the Wines of the Americas. 8th Annual Taste of Beacon Hill

It’s a first for the eighth annual Taste of Beacon Hill – the event, scheduled for Tuesday, May 20th, will be held at the newly minted Liberty Hotel. Craigie Street Brings Back the Whole Hog Dinner

Craigie Street Bistrot regulars have been clamoring for the return of the Whole Hog Dinner and chef Tony Maws is happy to oblige. On Thursday, May 22nd fans of the other white meat can sit down to six pork-laden courses. As is his custom, Maws will be incorporating all the porcine parts – from snout to tail – in courses like braised Berkshire pork cheeks with crushed fava beans, pickled peanuts, radishes and ramp kimchee; and coriander and ginger-cured Vermont organic pork belly with boudin noir, French white asparagus, Vidalia onion and rhubarb-hibiscus purée. Avila's Exaltaciòn de la Verdura

Taking a page from the Tudela, Spain playbook, Avila celebrates Exaltaciòn de la Verdura from Tuesday, May 27th through Friday, May 30th. Tudela, located in northern Spain on the banks of the Ebro River, is known for its bountiful harvest and its celebratory fruit and veggie-filled feast, which lasts for weeks. Chef Rodney Murillo recreates the festivities for Boston diners with Spanish dishes like chilled tomato-lemon soup with avocado and sweet corn; and braised beef short ribs with petite summer vegetables and Rioja wine sauce.
